Has this ever happened to you? You were thinking about a problem and no matter how hard you focus it seems that you’re stuck.
You’ve gone over the problem several times. You have tried to redefine it. You’ve looked at it from different angles. It seems that no matter what do you do and regardless of when you think about the problem, nothing seems to happen.
A lot of this has to do with the fact that your conscious mind can easily get stuck in a holding pattern. We have to choose our mindset. If you’ve ever gotten on a plane that was trying to land at a busy airport, you probably have experienced a holding pattern before. Your plane would circle around a city several times delaying the moment of your arrival. When the runway clears and your plane is given the green light to land, your pilot will then break the holding pattern and start the descent. That’s how planes work.
It’s not much different from your thoughts. When your mind is burning precious energy trying to achieve some sort of breakthrough because you have you find yourself at an impasse, it goes into a holding pattern. It’s as if you can’t think of anything new. You just keep revisiting the same things over and over again.
This is not much different from you losing your keys. When was the last time you lost your keys? I’m willing to bet that when you were looking for your keys, you kept checking at the places that you checked before. At the back of your head, you know that your keys aren’t there. After all, you just checked it a few minutes before but you can’t help yourself to keep checking again and again and again.
Maybe you just didn’t look properly. Perhaps it’s stuck somewhere in the back. Possibly, you just didn’t pay enough attention so you keep repeating this pattern over and over again. That’s how your mind works.
Unfortunately, this habit doesn’t get us any closer to the solution. How can it? You keep revisiting the same process. As the old saying goes, insanity is defined as doing the same thing over and over again while expecting different results each time. How can you achieve different results when you’re doing the same thing?
When you focus on the present moment, you get the chance to focus on your issues right here, right now. In other words, you can train all your creative and imaginative resources to the right problem at the right time and at the right place. This is definitely better than worrying sick about stuff that may or may not happen or, worse yet, crying over spilled milk.
By learning to tap the present moment through mindfulness or meditation practices, you start looking at your situation differently. The reason why this happens is that your subconscious mind enters the picture. Your subconscious mind is very powerful. It enables you to achieve breakthroughs when you thought these were simply not possible.

What if I Told You that You Can Edit Your Reality?
It’s very easy to look at reality as something that is just handed to us. If our parents were abusive, alcoholics, or addicts, it’s very easy and natural for people to think that’s just the world that they were born in. They’re just unlucky. That’s just the way things are. Life is a giant lottery and guess what? They ended up being handed the losing ticket. Talk about a very weak and self-defeating mindset.
The sad reality is the majority of people on this planet believe this at some level or other. They’re not going to say it straight out to your face in the same words that I used but they will use something similar. They basically will tell you that the reality is what it is. What you see is what you get. You’re stuck with the reality that you have and guess what? That reality is the same for everybody else. This is an objective fact.
What if I told you that’s wrong? What if I told you that two people who look at the same set of facts can walk away with two totally different interpretations? They’re still dealing with the same objective reality, right? How come they have totally different interpretations?
What if one person, upon seeing a nice-looking Ferrari said, “There’s no way I can afford that. I’m too poor. My parents are poor. Everybody I know is poor. Life sucks! The rich are getting richer; the poor are getting poorer. My lot in life is to simply just watch all the lucky people get life’s rewards.” Sounds pretty damning, right? Sounds like a pretty realistic assessment of his life.
What if I told you that another person looked at the same thing but said, “How can I afford that Ferrari? This person did not condemn himself or herself to not getting the Ferrari. Instead, this person asked a question. Put in another way, the person is asking, “How can I work with what I have and the problem-solving capabilities that I was born with to get this thing? How do I achieve this? What do I have to go through? What things do I need to build? What process do I have to go through? What kind of person do I have to become?”
When you ask those questions, things are possible because they tap into your almost unlimited human imagination resources and creativity. It’s all in your head. This is how we edit our reality because when we adopt certain mindsets, we condemn ourselves to certain realities. No amount of sweet-talking, no amount of counterexamples, and no amount of pep talks will make those people change their minds because they think that reality is the way it is.
No, it’s more changeable than you care to realize and it all begins with an active choice. It’s all about your mindset. Choose your mindset and you end up choosing your reality. That’s how powerful your mind is. it can bend and edit reality.
